英文简介:
The Port of Copenhagen is the biggest city in Denmark, located on the islands of Zealand and Amager.
Port History
In the early 10th Century, a small village was on the site and, in 1167, Bishop Absalon built a castle and fortified the town. In 1445, the Port of Copenhagen became capital of Denmark. The town was pillaged often during the Protestant Reformation.
Trade began to grow during the late 16th Century, and the city grew with many new buildings springing up. Wars with Sweden from 1658 to 1660 were marked by sieges of the Port of Copenhagen. Then fires at the end of the 18th Century destroyed much of the city. In 1807, Britain bombed the Port of Copenhagen. Despite the destruction, the Port of Copenhagen continued to expand, incorporating many nearby districts. The Port of Copenhagen was occupied by the Germans from April 1940 to May 1945 during World War II. In 1943, the Royal Danish Navy sunk several German ships so that they could not be used.
Port Commerce
Since the end of World War II, the Port of Copenhagen has continued to grow. Most of Denmark's manufacturing industry was located there during the 20th Century. However, the local economy has been dominated by services, trade, education, and finance during the first years of the 21st Century.
Today, Copenhagen Malmo Port (CMP) is Scandinavia's second biggest port resulting from the 2001 merger of the Copenhagen and Malmo ports and operating terminals in both Denmark and Sweden. The Port of Copenhagen boasts the largest Scandinavian automobile port, with both Toyota and Honda locating distribution centers there. Sony Nordic and Spain's steel giant Acerinox also have distribution centers there. UNICEF maintains its world warehouse in the Port of Copenhagen-Malmo.
The Port of Copenhagen has water depth of 39 feet and port area of over 200 acres, including almost 3000 square yards of roofed area. Almost eight thousand vessels call at the Port of Copenhagen-Malmo each year. In 2007, the combined Port of Copenhagen-Malmo handled over 18 million tons of cargo, including 192 TEUs of containerized cargo.
CMP port facilities include almost 500 acres of production area, almost 50 acres of warehouse, ten miles of quays, and 22 miles of railway tracks. Two modern container terminals encompass almost 62 acres, and bulk terminals handle over 12 thousand tons of cargo each day. Further, the CMP has four car terminals and tank capacity for two million cubic meters of liquid bulk.
Every year, the Port of Copenhagen handles three million tons of liquid bulk. Its bulk terminal encompasses over 200 acres, and the port has one million cubic meters of tank capacity. Its general cargo facilities offer four roll-on/roll-off berths and 12 acres of warehouse. The Port of Copenhagen's container terminal offers 38 acres of warehousing capacity and water depth of 32 feet.
Cruising and Travel
Denmark is a country of more than 400 islands surrounded by the North Sea. The Port of Copenhagen is easy to explore on foot and offers a multitude of shops and historical buildings. Because the city has few skyscrapers, its church spires create the skyline. It's the largest city in Scandinavia, with over 1.5 million people living there. Nightlife in the Port of Copenhagen is well worth an over-night visit. Tivoli Gardens is the city's most popular tourist area. Opened in 1843, it offers beautiful gardens, an amazing amusement park, and outdoor shows.
The Port of Copenhagen is a favorite destination for cruise travelers, welcoming over 300 vessels and over 380 thousand cruise passengers every year. The port has been recognized several times as Northern Europe's Best Cruise Port based on its world-class service. The Port of Copenhagen is base for cruises to St. Petersburg, Helsinki, Riga, Stockholm, Tallin, and the Baltic countries. It is also home for cr
